452

It is with a deep sadness that we announce the passing
of Past District Governor Ron Sloan PHF
and his wife Beth, only one week apart.
Ron was one of the charter members of The Rotary Club of Thornlie
and was the guiding light behind Handicamp,
a week long camp for people with disabilities.
The main Handicamp dinner is named the Sloan Dinner in his honour.
Southern Districts Rotary also named
the Ron Sloan Endeavour Scholarship Awards
in his honour.
The photo is of Ron speaking at the Awards.
Ron was a champion for Rotary and was the inspiration
and guiding light for a number of fabulous Rotary projects
over his time with Rotary.
Ron and Beth met as teenagers
and maintained their love for each other for all these years.
We extend our deepest condolences to Ron and Beth’s families.

Will be more opportunity for interaction with members.

Friday night will be a social night and there will be a Sunday morning session.

There is an opportunity of clubs to have their projects shown via a video.

There will be a baton run over the Matagarup Bridge and clubs

 can have a member participate,

the bridge will also be lit up in Rotary colours at night.

                                      WA Bush fire Relief Project

As you are aware, WA is again experiencing bushfire damage

with a current loss of over 71 homes.

The result of this will be long-term hardship for many and

we seek your help in collecting funds so that we can provide the necessary support.

Rotarians have been in contact both locally and from around Australia,

 keen to be of assistance.

If there is any practical assistance required we will be in touch with our clubs.

We have made offers to all the relevant shires and evacuation centres.

In the meantime an appeal fund, managed by

Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS)

has been set up, and we thank all of you for your support.

District 9465 members on behalf of DGE Patricia Schraven

As we continue to look for innovative ways to keep engaged

in Rotary during lockdowns and restrictions,

I am privileged to be participating in the first virtual Rotary International Assembly.

The opening flag ceremony, the wisdom of RI President Holger Knaack

and the forward thinking of RI President Elect Shekhar Mehta have been inspirational.

The Rotary Theme for 2021-2022 was announced

 “Serve to Change Lives”

and the new logo was launched – it is awesome.

Serve to Change Lives is fundamentally what Rotary is all about

and right now the call to serve is even stronger and closer to home.

The devastating fires impacting on so many fellow West Australians

I ask that Clubs seek ways to assist and support where we can.

In the meantime an appeal fund, managed by

Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS)

has been set up, and we thank all of you for your support.
