The Rotary Clubs of Melville and Perth have organised a gala R100 ball

at Ritz Carlton hotel on Friday 23 April 2021.

 Some tickets are still available.

To help offset the cost of this magnificent ball,

we've arranged for some quality wines to be bottled and appropriately labelled

and distributed to Rotarians throughout Districts 9465, 9455

 and indeed throughout Australia

All wines are remarkably only $11.75 per bottle

Case of wine postal delivery in WA is only $10

Many thanks and regards,

It is with pleasure that I hand over the

Chair of Handicamp 2022 to Peter Salleo.

Finally, with the help of my Treasurer, Bob Cooper,

and an amazing 2021 committee I am able to report that

the books have been closed with a positive surplus

which will allow the next Handicamp a healthy start.

Thank you for the opportunity to be part of such a rewarding project

and thank you to all the clubs that continue to see the value

of providing this great adventure for young people with a disability.

Bret Christian receives Vocational Excellence Award as owner

President Anthony presented Brett with his award and congratulated him

on his career and again confirmed that Brett was a well-deserved recipient of the award.

Rotary has one of the world's most recognised youth leadership programs.

Alex Mofflin was nominated to attend RYLA by his boss,

and Rotary Club of West Perth

 President, Stephen Lee.

 Alex shared with the members

a recount of his experience at the RYLA course

and provided an overview their daily activities in an amusing way.

These activities included an icebreaker exercise, identifying personality types -

4 colour types, meditation, orienteeringand building rapport with people.

There were also some challenges such as a high ropes course and a cross-country hike

Thet also participated in workshops on Leadership, Public Speaking, Mental Health,

 and Project Planning.

Inspired at the recent District Conference, Sandra has taken up the

Rotary Club of Heirisson

's Socks in the City Drive, and will be collecting (new) socks at our next few

Rotary Club of Karrinyup

 on May 2nd

THE VALUE OF A PAIR OF SOCKS IS WAY MORE THAN THE PRICE

Homeless people struggle to find clean dry socks to wear

. As a result they can develop both trench foot and warm water immersion foo

t and, unfortunately, a homeless person with a history of this is eight times more likely

to die in the next five years compared to a person who is not homeless.

THE BEST TREATMENT IS PREVENTION

Once trench foot or warm water immersion foot has developed healing occurs only

when the feet are cleaned, dried and exposed to air for weeks.

The best treatment is prevention and the best prevention is to wear clean dry socks.

YOU CAN HELP BY:

Donating socks – preferably new adult socks in natural fibres (cotton or wool)

. Donated socks can brought to our

Rotary Club of Karrinyup

Stirling Farmers Market

on May 2nd - or you can donate. $5 will buy two pairs of socks.

So, next time you're out shopping - why not pick up a pair or two and help Sandra fill this box..
.

Was fabulous at our last meeting to have Jan and Carol

(pictured here with President Elect Peter) from

Grandparents Rearing Grandchildren WA Inc.

explain some of the difficulties faced by kinship carers in Western Australia.

Hopefully in future, our club can find a way to support them and the fine work they do.

The Block: Backyard Blitz

event held at a supported transitional house run by

AYLA Assisting Your Life To Achieve

. Members from Rotary Elizabeth Quay (REQ), along with

Rotaract Club of Kalamunda

,

Beaufort Rotary Club

,

Rotary Club of Mount Lawley

,

Rotaract Club of Mt Lawley

and our friends, all descended on this garden for a massive make-over!

We worked from dusk to dawn, and it was so worth it

. Exhausted, we gathered around for dinner at the end of the night

and partook in some well earned fellowship

It's almost that time of Year that Matt will trade in his warm bed and sleep out

in the cold for 1 night to raise money for the homeless people in Australia.

On Thursday 18th June, Matt and other business leaders

and CEOs will participate in the

Vinnies CEO Sleepout

raising awareness and funds for homelessness.

Unfortunately 116,000 people in Australia are homeless-

9,000 are in our own backyard in Western Australia.

This will be his 5th year participating in this wonderful cause

and thanks to all the family

, friends and Rotarians that have donated towards the fundraiser.

So over the past 4 events Matt has in total raised $13,490

and this year he is looking to raise $5,000 that will aid Vinnies

in providing food and emergency accomodation of those less fortunate than us.

If you'd like to donate to the cause please visit the link:
