Working with our partner IOM, we’re supporting people
who’ve fled their homes within Tigray with emergency shelter,
household essentials and hygiene items.
We’ll be providing tarpaulins, rope, blankets, sleeping mats
, mosquito nets, water carriers, carry sacks and kitchen sets
. In some areas, we’re providing families with materials to build individual shelters,
but we will also help set up communal shelters
for some of the groups currently living in crowded school- rooms.
We’re also providing washbasins, soap, and water jugs
, to
help prevent a devastating outbreak of coronavirus
Distributions in Honduras are almost complete,
with post-deployment monitoring expected to start
at the end of the month.
Working closely with Habitat for Humanity and
the Rotary Club of San Pedro Sula,
we have supported 3,208 households with shelter aid
and essential items. Having aid pre-positioned
in Panama dramatically reduced
logistics costs
On Tuesday 20th April, we welcomed Les Woodland
as the newest Club Member of the Rotary Club of Karrinyup.
In the absence of Induction Officer Stuart Stone,
his self proclaimed understudy Nick Nedkoff
conducted the Induction ceremony.
President Richard presented Les with his RI and RC Karrinyup badge
and his 'Goody Bag' including a 'Rotarian at Work' hi-vis vest.
A badge
for his wife Marilyn is on its way.
Les will serve on the Community Service Committee
and is looking forward to being part of the Rotary Club of Karrinyup,
reconnecting with the wonderful Rotary organisation
and is enjoying
settling in at our awesome club.
A practicing accountant, Les is an experienced Rotarian.
He is the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow with sapphire pin
and has a long history of Rotary service.
He has twice served as president of the RC of Preston, Victoria
and will be an absolute asset to our Club and District 9455.
Club
Members welcomed and congratulated Les.
Will you help us improve the lives of young
Australians?

Thank you to Phil Sullivan (pictured right) from the 10th Light Horse Association
who was our guest speaker at last Monday's meeting.
On the eve of Anzac Day, Phil allowed us to reflect on the
courage and sacrifices made by many West Australian soldiers
on the battlefields of
Gallipoli, Europe and North Africa.
Attending the Anzac Day service at Butler College on Friday
were keynote speaker Jane Inglis of Quinns Rocks RSL
and Rotary
Mindarie President Brian Butterworth.
Today (as we did on Saturday) we have a display at the Ocean Keys Shopping Centre
in conjunction with Quinns RSL supporting Battlefield Blue
with the sale of badges & accepting donations for red
poppies.
Thank you to everyone who helped out.
The response has been fantastic through community engagement & support
of both the Battlefield Blue badges &
poppies.
Fabulous ANZAC reflection on Monday night with Maj.Nurse
presenting the 10th Light Horse and the Battle of the Nek
and Barry Telfer who played the Last Post on his bugle.
Thank you both for such a moving
tribute
ANZAC Tears!
Jeremy found himself in tears at two out of three Primary School Anzac day
Ceremonies he attended today representing Rotary Cambridge.
Tears at Floreat Park, tears at City Beach and military precision at Churchlands Primary School
Well done all three schools and all their students for
such professionalism. What a pleasure to be included in the
communities of these schools
Feeling pumped after smashing out 920 sandwiches yesterday morning for 10 public schools
Well done to this amazing team of volunteers who did such a wonderful job
that we were packing up in under an hour
I'm sure all the schools would have been very grateful for the fresh batch
after the recent power outage (due to the cyclone)
Next session
Tuesday 11 May, 6.30am (Safe Food Handling Certificates req.)
Another great effort by club members sorting towels
for the End Trachoma project.
A speaker of the calibre of Chris Holyday was sure to attract visitors
especially when speaking on his recent book 'A Century of Service.
A History of the Returned & Services League in WA'
. Our club liaison with the North Beach RSL Sub-branch, Ross Daniel
was on hand to welcome visitors Jim Ryle and Peter Edwards,
who came along specifically to hear Chris speak about the book.
Also visiting our club for the first time was Marilyn Woodland,
wife of our newly inducted member Les and Tess Gardner, a friend
of Jane Wake.
