More than half of the 2.5 million refugees fleeing

#Ukraine have arrived in Poland,

where #Rotary members are organizing shelter, transportation,

and basic necessities for the incoming refugees.

Rotary Club Olzstyn is collecting and managing donations for refugees,

primarily unaccompanied children, staying at Ostróda Camp.

Within a few hours, four cars full of donated items were collected-

- including food, clothes, bedding, personal hygiene products, as well as some toys.

The #Rotary Foundation has received thousands of donations,

totaling over $2 million.

These donations support efforts like those of Rotary Club Olsztyn

as well as provide medical supplies in #Ukraine and support refugees

who have fled to neighboring countries. #RotaryResponds

Australian Governors of Rotary

This week we were advised that The Rotary Foundation

has made a decision that all donations to Its Disaster Response Fund

until 30 April this year will be used to support the Ukrainian people.

Rotary Districts in Ukraine and districts bordering Ukraine sheltering refugees

will be able to access this fund to apply for disaster response grants

to purchase items such as water, food, shelter, medicine and clothing.

We have quickly pivoted and placed a link on our

Rotary Foundation Australia homepage to enable Australians to easily donate.

 Donations are tax deductible.

The link takes donors to the donation page of The Rotary Foundation

and once the donor clicks that the donation will be in Australian dollars

the money goes through Rotary Foundation Australia and is tax deductible.

If you support the campaign, would you be kind enough

to send the enclosed press release to your clubs and asked them

in turn descended to the local media.

The more publicity we can get, the more we can help the Ukrainian people

through local Rotarians both within Ukraine and in adjoining countries.

The Rotary district covering Ukraine also covers a number

of adjoining countries and we will be able to quickly

get the money to where it is most needed.

The procedure is of course that local districts in that area apply

for a disaster response grant which has been increased to $50,000 for them

. My experience is that these applications are processed very quickly.

This is also a great opportunity to showcase The Rotary Foundation

at work, utilising our Rotary volunteers throughout the world.

Your support and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Best wishes

Maurie Stack

Chair

Our club has paid for an additional Shelter Box to assist with the displacement of people in Ukraine

. Over 660,000 people have already left the country and predicts as many

as 12 million people may need humanitarian assistance.

If you would like to help with part of or a full Shelter Box,

 please see the link below:

Circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus confirmed in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory

Local health authorities conducting

 investigations to determine source

of virus and potential risk of further spread

On Monday 7 March 2022,

 a case of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 3 (cVDPV3)

was confirmed in an unvaccinated girl aged three years

and nine months in Israel

. The girl had developed acute flaccid paralysis

and upon testing of her stool, poliovirus was confirmed.

Further testing of the poliovirus isolated from the girl

revealed genetic links to VDPV3-strains

 detected in environmental samples collected

from sites in in Israel and the

occupied Palestinian territory between

 September 2021 and January 2022.

These isolates, previously classified

 as ambiguous VDPV3,

have now been reclassified as circulating

 VDPV3 (cVDPV3).

This confirms an outbreak of cVDPV3 in both Israel

 and the occupied Palestinian territory.

Local health authorities are conducting field,

 epidemiological and virological investigations,

to determine more clearly the source and origin

 of the isolated virus,

and potential risk of further spread associated with it.

International Women’s Day was marked on 8 March

and among several online activities, the

 GPEI released a video

featuring the voices of some of the women involved

in the polio eradication effort in Pakistan.

 Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs,

European Union and Cooperation and Gender Champion

 for Polio Eradication

José Manuel Albares also paid tribute

to all the women in polio eradication.

Recently St Pats put out a call for urgently needed items.

In fact they were 'desperate'. So using a donation from Simone McGurk

towards our Rotary Freo’s GADGAC campaign

for goods to go to St Pats we used this donation to purchase desperately needed

saucepans, frying pans, can openers, women's underwear, tea bags

and cans of baked beans with ring pull tops.

The St Pats Op Shop was so grateful for these items.

You can see the op shop behind Rotary member Deb Greenwood

Pre-market team meeting….today

Thanks so much to our fabulous

Stirling Farmers Market

community for the nearly seamless adoption of the stage two requirement

to mask-up at public outdoor events.

Thanks to our wonderful extra volunteers

- who spent time during the busy morning ensuring

all were aware of the new requirements

and handing out masks where required,

to our friends at Western Australia Police Force who dropped by to say hi

and were impressed with the level of compliance

, and to our fantastic customers and stallholders - you rock!

The Rotary Club of Albany Port held a Quiz Night

at the Rotary Youth and Community Camp.

Organised by our Foundation Director, Grant Cosh,

the night raised $1200 for Rotary Foundation.

Quiz Master Peter Barnesby kept the night moving at a perfect pace.

Games between sets of questions were great fun.

Food was donated by Dominos Albany (President Adrian Benson)

and Lenard's Chicken Albany (Grant Cosh).

The feedback was very positive, everyone had a most enjoyable night

Some of the members of the Rotary Club of Attadale

had a very enjoyable bowls evening

on Friday, 25th February,

with 20 people attending the bowls and many staying on

for a meal afterwards.

The bowlers were divided into three teams

and each rink had an experienced bowler as instructor.

Thanks go to Don Bodlovich from Fremantle Rotary Club for helping out,

and to Bill Allen for organising the event.

Special thanks to those who acted as bowling instructors.

Following the bowls we all enjoyed a drink afterwards,

then a meal in the social atmosphere of the bowling club.

It was such a success that Mt Pleasant Bowling Club’s membership

gained four new members on the night.

Thank you to Joyce for organising this very social Rotary outing.

Thank you to Winston for the summary of the evening

and to Colin McCulloch for the bowling photos
