n the way. We are working on three projects –

two within Ukraine and one to support

Much has happened since our last update

The past few weeks have been a trying time for many,

with record-breaking floods affecting much of the East Coast,

leaving thousands of houses and businesses damaged

and many people left homeless or without work.

ShelterBox staff have been amongst the thousands of volunteers

that have been helping with co-ordination, delivery of donated goods

and the massive task of clear-up.

Due to logistical and capacity challenges,

a ShelterBox response was not possible at this time,

hence no appeal was launched. Instead, we recommend

that anyone wishing to support local flood relief, go

the Rotary Australia World Community Service appeal page.

ShelterBox is responding to the Ukraine crisis.

We have a team in Poland and aid is on the way.

We are working on three projects

– two within Ukraine and one to support refugees fleeing the county.

We are sending mattresses to ‘collective centres’ like schools,

churches, and sports centres in western Ukraine.

This will ensure people who have fled their homes

have somewhere to sleep and keep warm at night.

We are preparing to provide shelter kits with tools and rope,

 high thermal blankets, hygiene kits

(including items like soap, washing powder and toothpaste),

solar lights, buckets and water carriers to help people survive

in buildings damaged by the conflict.

We will be supporting refugees in neighbouring countries

with high priority items they can carry with them,

like hygiene items and warm winter coats.

Thanks to all those that have generously contributed to our

Ukraine Appeal

. With the UN putting the number of refugees fleeing

the country now at 3 million, and millions more displaced

 with Ukraine,

the need is only going to grow, as the conflict continues

Thornlie Probus Club - the very first Probus Club in WA!

and was chartered when Ron Sloan was District Governor in 1982

There are now 95 clubs with approximately 5800 members in WA

and over 1700 clubs in Australia with more than 125,000 members.

What is Probus?

It’s probably the most widely recognised organisation for active retirees.

A Probus Club is an association of retired and semi-retired people

who join together to provide regular opportunities for them

to keep their minds active, expand their interests

and to enjoy the fellowship of new friends.

 Sponsoring and supporting Probus Clubs

 is a Community Service activity

of Rotary Clubs. Each Probus Club is aligned with a Rotary District

and, once Rotary sponsors a Probus Club,

it can operate independently within the parameters of Probus’

 Constitution and accreditation requirements

. Importantly, Probus Clubs must be non-profit making

and cannot set themselves up as fund-raising organisations.

for their work on various fundraising activities, we have reached the $1,000,000

raised for our Perth Children's Hospital Goldfields Family Assistance Trust Fund since 2006.

We have heard first hand the difference this makes to local families during their time of need.

who has contributed to this fund, let's get to $2million now.

The Rotary Club of Fremantle is continuing to extend support to international

small commercial ventures by participating in micro loans through Kiva. Kiva

is an international not for profit organisation with a mission to expand financial access

 to help communities thrive.

This is done by crowdfunding loans and unlocking capital for people

who would otherwise had no access to borrowed funds.

Fremantle Rotary is now supporting 19 small businesses in 15 countries.

14 of the loans are already on the way to being repaid.

 The remaining loans are recent.
