Changeover night at Freo Rotary. Adam,
for the last time as President thanked the members for their
support over the year and remarked that for a club relatively small
in numbers we had contributed a large sum to the community of Fremantle i
n both money, goods and kind over the year.
In the past year the club has raised over $63,000 for local and international projects.
On top of that the club promotes collection of non perishable food f
or those in need and close to $9000 worth of food was handed over.
Support was also given to micro finance overseas projects
as well as supply of computers for refugee children in Bangkok.
$26,000 were given to the Spinnaker Foundation
for much needed medical research.
Not a bad effort for a small club!
Adam then handed over to the incoming President Paul
who outlined his plans for the coming year,
and introduced the new board.
A great night at the old Courthouse when members finished
by handing down justice from the bench.

Out of the Wooroloo Bushfire came a group of Gentlemen
who decided to create the Gidgegannup Men's Shed
and today; while we were at the Wooroloo Muster
continuing to innovate out of Recovery to Resilience
– I also popped in to see
them at their 1st birthday!

The Gidgegannup Men’s Shed is a community-based Men’s Shed
that provides opportunities for members to work on projects of their own
, join in Shed activities and tasks, or just share time,
recreation and fellowship with other
members.
They have opened up the Shed to all comers and quite a number of Ladies
have joined – just today, 11 new members joined for their first birthday
nearly up to 50
members and they hope to hit 100 to the end of the year.
An small investment of $17K over a year has provided the impetus
for this dynamic Community Group to thrive out of
adversity producing a serious social dividend
for their Community

Last week we were lucky enough to have several visitors
to our breakfast, guest speaker Samantha Edwards and Anita Kirkbright
from DFES Cyclone Seroja Response;
Hari Kumar from the Midwest Multicultural Association
and Jeff Klar from Legacy WA.
We made a presentation of $5,000 to Legacy following
another successful Golf Day in April.
This brings our total close to $170,000 over the past 31 years.
We also made a donation of $2,500 to the Midwest Multicultural Association
to help fund their various activities including Festival of Light, Harmony Day,
A Taste of the World and Language Classes.
A wonderful start to our day!

$165,638.40 to The Salvation Army in
Western Australia.
These funds are applied to their outreach workers,
wellness centers refuges and programs they provide to support women
and children breaking the intergenerational cycle of family violence
in Perth and
Karratha.
Youth Director Trish, currently travelling in Europe after a long COVID break,
was delighted to catch up with Jacob, our club's Rotary Youth Exchange
Inbound from Denmark 2013-2014.
Our club strives to maintain connections with our past
exchange students
long after their exchange year is over.
On 17 June, representing the Rotary Club of Karrinyup
and the Karrinyup Community Men’s Shed,
Peter Polain attended a forum on 'Men’s Health and Well Being',
sponsored by 'Mens Talk'.
The event, which comprised an evening of networking and engaging
with the physical and mental aspects of men's wellbeing,
featured guest speakers, along with refreshments.
It was well attended by over one hundred participants.
Notably there were several young men as well as young women
Our wonderful food van team feeding the volunteers at the
Australian Resilience Corp muster.
We were invited aboard the HMAS Stalwart as part
of her inaugural visit to Geraldton.
Commissioned in November 2021, the ship is 174 metres long
and weighs 19,500 tonnes (displaced weight).
With a crew of 170 people onboard, the ship is a
supply-class replenishment oilier, for the Royal Australian Navy.
We were given a great insight into the role of the ship
and life onboard by our guide Vinny. Huge thanks to PP Jason
for arranging a wonderful afternoon Vocational visit.
Recently the club hosted Priscilla from Horizon Power
at one of our club meetings.
It was so great to hear from Priscilla and learn more about
the various
projects in which
Horizon are currently involved in the district and region.
