Last Sunday’s Rotary Playmeet with Purpose was full of emotion........
Then with perfect weather I was , happy to see the kid’s smiling faces,
proud to see the team pulling my crazy idea off
and excited that the kids were learning about important ideas
in a fun and creative way.

Thank you to everyone who supported this event!
Now will I be brave enough to start planning the next one?

Last night our club hosted the final of the Junior 4 Way Speaking Competition.
Congratulations to the winner Drudti Gokani from Carine Primary School.
In attendance was the founder of the 4 Way Speaking Test

A great night hearing about Magic Coat for Kids program
and the impact it is having on children and families
; helping create confident, calm and caring kids
who know how to problem solve, feel safe and manage their emotions appropriately
so that they have good mental health and well being.
To top off the evening we welcomed our new
David Goldstone Scholars for 2019/20! 😊

Over the last year, we've collected second-hand textbooks
and new stationary to donate to children in need 📚📒✏
We intended on donating these materials to a charity
to help disadvantaged children, however due to unforseen circumstances
that was no longer possible 😔
So instead we donated the materials to two schools that
were going to use them to benefit their students:
 Mercy College - Koondoola
and St Munchin's Catholic School - Gosnells! 🎓

An audience of 65 heard her describe her life before politics.

The Rotary Club of Rockingham delivered a truck load of medical equipment
to Rafiki Surgical Missions to help with their work in Tanzania.
Established in 2004, Rafiki Surgical Missions is a non-profit charity
that sends teams of qualified surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses
and allied therapists to Tanzania to provide
free surgical treatment and medical training.

The organisation raises funds in Australia and Tanzania
to support professional surgical teams who travel to Tanzania from Australia.
The teams and other volunteers work in collaboration
 with Tanzanian Hospitals,
Governments and other stakeholders to provide
 surgical treatment and surgical teaching.

A big thank-you to Rory at Ritz Party Hire for the use of the truck.

Dr Christine Cooper,
currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Environment
and Agriculture at Curtin University was the Guest Speaker at Attadale Rotary Club
Her area of expertise is in vertebrate ecophysiology, with a
particular emphasis on native Australian birds and mammals
with her research being a combination of both laboratory and field studies.
Water balance is particularly critical for mammals and birds
inhabiting arid zones and areas undergoing habitat modification.
Dr Cooper's talk was very interesting as she introduced information
that was new to most of those present and many questions followed.
Great fellowship and food are always enjoyed at Attadale Rotary meetings
and pictured are Kerry and Abby Parsons, Jim Calcei, Rod Rate and Mal Bennett.
John Sharp, President Gail McCulloch and Colin McCulloch
are pictured with the Guest Speaker Dr Christine Cooper.

It was wonderful to have several VIP's with us at the last meeting.
Thanks for attending and making our day that bit better.

Adorable Thai Grandma Sings to Her Chihuahua Dog

A lovely grandmother from Thailand sings
to her adorable Chihuahua dog a beautiful song.
This is the quintessential song of refugees
in 1980’s Thai refugee camps
. “More Than I Can Say” is a song written by Sonny Curtis and Jerry Allison,
both former members of Buddy Holly’s band the Crickets.
They recorded it in 1959 soon after Holly’s death
 and released it in 1960.
Their original version hit No. 42 on British Record Retailer Chart in 1960
. It has been notably performed by singers Bobby Vee,
 Leo Sayer, and Sammy Kershaw.
