A great night at Rotary tonight with two new members inducted.
A very warm welcome to Tony Joyce and his wife Lyn,
and John Riegert and his wife Layla.
Tony joins us after relocating from Bridgetown where,
in Rotary, he chaired the Blackwood Marathon committee for some years
. Now retired, Tony and Lyn live in Cookernup
and Tony enjoys golf and reading.
John joins us with 18 years of Apex experience.
Born in Harvey, John lived in Yarloop and went to Harvry High School.
John's great-grandfather, Otto, was the first Principal of Yarloop Primary School in 1910.
A farmer for 10 years, John then went into the timber industry and started Jarrahco.
John is starting to wind down in preparation for retirement
and will enjoy spending more time with Layla
as they indulge in camping, fishing, and diving in exotic places.
Welcome to you all.
Enjoying the evening were regulars Jim & Jan Turner, Bill Russell, Don Watts
, Charlie & Christine Baggetta, Linda Parton, John & Margaret Lowe,
 Robyn & Steve Coleman.
Also joining us was Paul & Sue Beech and Rusty Miller.
A great Rotary night.

Induction of Amy  Bayliss

It was a pleasure to present outgoing Secretary, John Erkins,
with a well deserved Paul Harris Fellowship.
We'd organised it before John took a few weeks break
from the Club and "sprang" it on him at home
watched by a number of Club members.
John was suitably surprised and delighted.
The award is well and truly deserved especially
to recognise John's outstanding commitment and contribution
in his six years as Club Secretary.

19.2% of homosexual/bisexual Australians aged 16 to 85
have experienced an affective disorder in the last 12 months.
This is more than triple the rate of heterosexual Australians.

Como Rotary is very supportive of the wide range
of Youth Activities provided by Rotary..

Peter (PJ) McSkimming, Leila Arnold and Emily Holland treated Members
and guests to enthusiastic descriptions of their experience
s at NYSF and Conoco Philips Science Week respectively.
Their obvious enthusiasm told Rotarians just how worthwhile
to sponsor these three scientists of the future
. Thank you all!

Congratulations Danika!

The emergent relocation of our Rotary Wheatbelt Swim for Reading
 to Narembeen meant the Quairading
contigent returmed home to swim there.
We were planning to present Danika Squires
with her RYPEN graduation certificate at the Swim, but not a problem,
Swim Director Kero dropped in to the carnival at Quairading
on Sunday to recognize Danika's achievement.

All the way from Seattle visitors tonight at the Mandurah District Rotary Club
shared the history of 'Tiny House's'.
A very interesting story and something all communities can learn from.
The large numbers in attendance were in awe relating some
of the possibilities to our lovely community.

The word about our terrible bush fires throughout Australia
 has spread throughout the world.
All the way from the UK a donation to Mandurah District Rotary
was presented by a visitor tonight.
Thank you.

Our most recent guest speaker was Rotarian Ken Rule
from the Rotary Club of Gosnells.
Ken (pictured at  right being thanked by Anne Edgar)
spoke about Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC).
ROMAC provides medical treatment for children
of developing countries in the form of life-saving
or dignity- restoring surgery.
ROMAC brings in children up to the age of fifteen (15) years
from Asia and the Pacific region to be treated
by volunteer surgeons and their teams in major hospitals
 around Australia and New Zealand.
