Handicamp Calling

The committee is pleased to report that 1,2,3
we are off and racing!
We have 1 camper, 2 buddies and 3 financial donations to date,
plus some offers of equipment, thanks Craig Alford.

How is your club progressing with finding campers and buddies?

It may help you to visit your Local Government office
and ask to speak with the Access and Inclusion officer.
These wonderful people have so much knowledge about the people
in your district and may be able to assist you in securing camp attendees.

Do you have past RYLA or RYPEN candidates
that may be able to assist as a buddy?

Or would you like to sponsor a specific event?
Provision of a morning tea on site is a great way for your club
to interact for brief time with camp and is loved by all.

Would you prefer to sponsor?
Ø  bingo prizes,
Ø  snacks for the Bingo Night and Karaoke night,
Ø  ice cream treats,
Ø  lunches for excursion days such as Subway or Chicken Treat.

Do not be shy! Let us know how your club can help.

6 weeks until World Mental Health Day,
when we celebrate our national fundraising event Hat Day!
Find out some COVID-safe ways you can
support mental health research this year:

Last night we heard from Mainto - from the
- who spoke to our club about the work that their club is doing in Dili and Timor Leste.

Thank you Mainto, we look forward to seeing you at a few meetings while you're in Kununurra!

We held a Soup Night last Saturday evening to raise money
for 2 Homeless projects that our club is supporting.
Around 60 people joined us for a wholesome bowl of soup,
crusty bread rolls and a glass of wine, a beer or a soft drink
and helped us raise $2,500.
The funds will be split between:
- the Perth Homeless Support Group which provides food
and other supplies to homeless people around the city;
 and
- Rotary Supporting 'My Home' which is working
with Michelle Blakeley's 'My Home' project, the State Government
and local corporations to build permanent housing
for homeless people around the State.
Rotary has undertaken to provide the furnishings for the houses
the first batch of which will be built over coming months.

We also took the opportunity its to award Narelle Findley
and DJ Des Certificates of Appreciation to thank them
for organising and running the Bohemian Rhapsody event last October.

  ·
With only just under a week to go, the BulldustNBack team
were out there again, checking on the route
and surveying goat tracks and roads
to give participants the thrill of a lifetime!
Time to get your vehicle in order and finalise your sponsorships
 - all for really brilliant causes -
 Kids Cancer and Mental Health.
If you missed out on a place, then its not too late to donate
- every little bit helps!
A BIG THANK YOU to all those who have already donated
- you HAVE made a difference!

Water for Africa - Water Well Project
It’s with great delight we can confirm the Scarborough Rotary sponsored
water project at Utenguli Secondary School is now complete
and safe clean drinking water is flowing

The school has 606 students, they were previously walking a daily 3 kms
to collect dirty contaminated water, and this was reducing their education time.
They were scared of snakes, wild animals and being attacked.

Our club members are helping the

team build up and organise the items at the Tools n Things Library.

Thanks to the Bendigo Community Bank-Byford for hosting the Raffle Draw at the BDCC
. Our Rotary Club along with many other community groups and NFP's
received checks that demonstrated their efforts over the past months.
Despite Covid-19 limitations over $30,000.00 was raised.
A great effort by all.

Watch out for our Duck Derby promotions team and Rotary 'pop-up shop'
at Hillarys Boardwalk in coming weeks.
We hope to have it staffed over each weekend, and Thursday and Friday nights
. If you miss them get your tickets online at

Happy to see some smiling faces at Brunswick Junction Primary School
and they aren’t the only school smiling!
Thank you to the student councillors for showing us the processes
they had to go through previously with washing the uniforms
and having them ready for students use.
We hope the dryer assists in making this easier for you and more effective.
Earlier this year we held a Decades Quiz Night fundraiser
to raise money for local government primary schools in our area.
As a result of this, 3 schools received support:
• Brunswick Junction Primary School received a new clothes dryer
to dry spare school uniforms after being washed.
• Carey Park Primary School put the donation towards purchasing more uniforms
to keep as spares for students in need.
• Adam Road Primary School elected to put the donation into their Hardship Fund.

Thank you to all of the community members and local businesses
who came along to the event and donated on the night.
You not only supported us as a club but most importantly 3 local schools!
We are currently in the works of organising more fun events like our quiz night
that will allow us to keep giving back to the wider community.
Stay tuned and watch this space for future events.
