Rotary Friends,
Following the Wooroloo Bushfires in February,
Rotary has been active across the State and the Nation
to support many who have lost so much.
Over $400,000 was collected between RAWCS and Rotary District/ Club support
. Many of those of whom we supported in the East have reciprocated
– the Rotary network is an absolute wonder to behold
– thank you everyone.
Our work has been influenced by those who have gone before,
East Gippsland and South Australian Rotary teams have advised us,
which enabled us to hit the ground running to provide immediate support
and our assistance
has been in three areas:
1. Storage Sea Containers to site in the fire scar to securely store
necessities,
2. Building Tool Libraries for continued work long into the future, and
3. Supporting BlazeAid and the requirement to build perimeter fences
to
secure places & livestock.
The container list grew quickly, and 33 containers have been acquired
with 17 delivered thus far and shortly we should have the delivery list to 26
. The Container team have been magnificent with local personnel assisting
on the ground to identify
some extremely difficult access issues.
After four months we are bringing the Container phase to an end
and will move into the Tool Library phase.
Working with The Minderoo Foundation, the Tool Libraries
are being purchased and fitted out supporting Minderoo’s Accommodation Pods
and our Storage Containers where people have lost so much
but need to do
so much more.
Our Project Manager for the Rotary Tool Libraries is building systems
of work with people, process, and appropriate sites for the Libraries.
We are supported magnificently by both the City of Swan
and the Shire of Mundaring in this important sub-project.
The Tool Libraries have the potential to be a special Community focus
for gathering and chatting
to neutral humans as part of the healing process.
That leaves the third avenue of our service – fencing.
We support BlazeAid by providing support to the volunteer camp,
fencing supplies where others are unable so they could put them up
and to those worthy recipients who just want to build their own
and the array of materials required
varies extensively where horses are concerned.
The delivery of fencing supplies has moved to a process of procurement
and delivery from manufacturer to recipient site and
cutting out the double handling.
We have learnt
much!
You can all be very proud of the Rotary progress in distributing
the generous funds in a most equitable manner, quickly and efficiently,
to those who have lost so much.
Please note with the recent Cyclone and flooding in the Highlands
of Timor-Leste destroying the villager’s crops and made worst
by the growing lock downs due to Covid 19.
where the numbers of effected people are growing
to exceeding 100 in the Dili area
Rotary Projects Timor-Leste has been approached by the villagers
if we could help with critical food aid as they were in danger
of running out of food, and as the main government
and other NGO;s was consecrating their aid efforts in the Dili area
where thousands are either homeless or in need of help,
meant the Villagers east of Baucau were receiving none
or extraordinarily little help.
As a result, RPTLE and your club is considered an unbelievably
valuable member of this Rotary Group,
with the extra help from Rotary Clubs of Phillip Island
and San Remo, Camberwell (Vic)
Sydney cove (NSW) Kwinana (WA)
In the last couple of weeks, we have delivered with the help
of the local fathers and the villagers community leaders,
three truckloads of critical food aid totalling more than
USD $7,000,00 has been delivered to these
villagers

Congratulations Tristan Kolay for being awarded
Volunteer for Multicultural Communities organised by Volunteering WA.
There are so many worthy Rotarians, this will be the first of many
to be
recognised outside of the REQ network.
Good job on branding TK. 'Service Above Self' was mentioned
at least 3 times in
his thank you speech.
Big thanks to Bobbi too, partners are just as important!

With great pleasure the Golf committee presented a cheque on Monday night
(a rather large one!) to Chris Elliot and Rob Mikulski
from Totally and Partially Disabled Veterans of WA
from contributions from our
Golf Day in April.
It was a pleasure to be able to share our meeting with my fellow
Centennial District Governor PDG Cathy Roth and her husband PP John Roth
. Cathy and John are from Geelong and are in Perth
to launch the Western Australian Chapter of PALZ
, Professionals living with Alzheimer’s,
The launch was well attended and although not a Rotary Project
targeted senior Rotary leaders as an
entrance into the WA community.

Centenary Cycle Ride - DAY 11
The FINAL push!
Our last day of the ride took us from Arthur River to Collie via Darkan,
a distance of 94 km. We set off early hoping to get to Collie
before the incoming front of showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds blowing
in from the north west - and we nearly did! The rain hit us -10 km out of Collie,
so the ride ended as it had started, WET!
Arriving in Collie wet and bedraggled, our spirits were raised immediately
by the welcoming party of the Collie Rotary club,
they had planned a sausage sizzle but some things are just not meant to be.
The weather wasn't the only thing that blew us away,
we were blown away by the generosity of the Collie club. Club President, Jim Henderson,
presented us with a whopping $1,000 donation for the bush fire relief appeal -
THANK YOU.
We also caught up with a reporter from the Collie River Valley Bulletin
who had braved the weather and came to hear about our
adventure and fundraiser.
At the Rotary Club of Subiaco we volunteer because we want to
, not because we have to.
We have fun and meet interesting people along the way
. Come along and join our club
. Our motto ‘Service above Self’
says it all.
Happy National Volunteers Week !!
Socks and Beanie’s night.
Again a great success and it was great to have Chris King ,
the originator of this project to join us for
the evening.
The satisfaction of a completed project (or almost completed).

Last Saturday, members of the Rotary Club of Armadale
cooked and served around 75 sausages and buns as neighbours came togther
for the opening of a new park & children's playground in the local suburb of Hilbert.
Developer Peet & Co’s Creative Communities’ Engagement & Activation Consultant,
Anneli Jonsson, and colleagues organised the event, ensuring that all the neighbours
who attended the opening were made very welcome
. The food and cool drinks were paid for by the company,
who also made a
helpful donation to club funds.
Come on down to the river markets, we have our wood raffle going.
All in aid of the January Perth hills fires.
