ShelterBoxAustralia
Volunteer Impact Award 2021
Rod Style (Perth,
Western Australia)
Rod displayed his long-term commitment to ShelterBox
by being the first volunteer in Australia to physically promote
ShelterBox at a number of events as soon
as COVID
restrictions were lifted
Shelter Box WA held an afternoon tea at the Ritz Carlton Perth
during National Volunteers Week, supported by a grant from
Volunteering WA.
June Wade was presented with a Shelter Box Distinguished Service Award
by CEO
Mike Greenslade who flew over from Sydney for the event.
ShelterBox is a
cutting-edge charity that hand-delivers emergency shelter for families
devastated by natural disaster and conflict. ShelterBox
works with disaster-hit families around the world, offering emergency shelter and
other essential items to support them in rebuilding
their lives.
ShelterBox began
in 2000 as a Rotary Club millennium project. With the support of Rotary
members
and clubs around the world, ShelterBox has grown to
become an internationally recognised, independent disaster
relief organisation.
ShelterBox is a project partner with Rotary International.
Since2012, ShelterBox and Rotary have been official Project
Partners in disaster relief. By working together with Rotary, ShelterBox is able to collaborate and
combine resources to ensure that we can support more communities in desperate
need of shelter after disaster. Each year, Rotary helps us to go
further, support more people and access areas that would otherwise be impossible
to reach.
Rotarians and Rotary groups across the world support us in a
variety of ways, from raising funds and
awareness to providing support on the
ground during our response to a disaster. This enables us to work more
effectively and reach more communities around the world.
Since 2000,
ShelterBox has assisted 2 million+
people across 98 different
countries. In 2020, despite COVID-19, we helped over 40,000 families. From Cameroon
and Vanuatu, to the Philippines, Syria and Honduras; our reach is truly global.
Our aid inventory
includes different types of tents to suit a range of conditions, shelter kits
and tarpaulins to repair damaged homes and essential items like water filters
and solar lights. Our aspiration is that no family goes without shelter
following disasters. You can help us
achieve this aim.

Congratulations to Southern Haulage who received tonight’s Vocational Award.
It was great to have four Generations of Pavlovich Family
in attendance, acknowledging 62 years of business.
For many years Rotary Club of Karrinyup has awarded an annual perpetual
Service Above Self Award to a Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club member,
who has provided outstanding service above and beyond their designated role.
At the recent Annual Dinner for the Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club,
our Rotary Club of Karrinyup Community Service team members Mick and Ross
presented the coveted Service Above Self Award to the
2021 recipient
Nicki Parsons, seen here proudly displaying the Award.
At last night’s Rotary Club of Karrinyup meeting we were visited
by Ethan and his Mum Jennifer, who will be heading off in August
in
their vintage Variety
Bash 2021 - Blinky Bill vehicle.
Great to see a young person from our area
fundraising for such a great cause.
Started by Dick Smith in 1985, the Bash raises funds for the Children's Charity, Variety.
To date, over $23 million has been
raised for sick and disadvantaged kids around Australia.
It is not a race or a rally, rather in Dick Smith's words
, "a drive in the outback with a few mates"
in cars that are 25
years or older, which have been done up in a fun theme.
We sent Ethan away with a donation from our club,
but should you wish to support Ethan and his Blinky Bill vehicle,
you can donate
via Ethan's entry page here:

Extremely excited about this project and a huge thanks to the brains behind it,
Kim Luke and Aidan Luke! Your passion for this project is second to none,
and we can really see
this taking off

Hoping this makes things just a little bit easier for those having to travel on
RFDS
at such short notice or from remote areas without these resources.
Wow, in the presence of a legend today. Dr Robert Isaacs AM OAM.
An emotional story of being told he had no family to finding his family
by determination and perseverance
. He’s seen so much change with indigenous affairs and has led the way on many fronts.
To have been told to never to go back to Clontarf
and to have been given all the land back to the Noongar people.
That’s huge.
He says education is key, what an uplifting lunch and if you were
not there you missed out today.
Thanks to Dr Sandy Chong for the
joint UNAAWA lunch.
A great turn out at the Rotary District 9465 Assembly
of the incoming #rotaryclubofpalmbeach Board for 2021/2022.
