Are you joining the 2021 Rotary Virtual Convention this weekend?

convention.rotary.org

Volunteer wanted

for the role of Chair WA Rotary Cyclone Relief.

The role is not insignificant, and the volunteer will work with

Peter Durrant, Chair WA Rotary Fire Relief -

a position description available from Peter for those interested.

The positive aspects are, that all the administrative processes

are in place, funding sources from RAWCS

and the District Emergency Relief (ER) bank account in place.

The two roles, Fire & Cyclone use the same Treasurer

and financial controls all in place now.

Communications processes are also in place

https://www.facebook.com/WARotaryBushfireRelief

with a formal D9455 Email address

recovery2@rotarywa9455.org

for the volunteer’s use and succession process.

The outcome of this body of work is to set up

an ER function within D9455 for posterity and

arguably influence a Rotary WA activity as the

Fire Relief work is truly a state-wide activity.

Those interested are requested to contact

 Peter Durrant, ER Committee

If you have donated recently, I'd like to thank you for your support.

Emergency shelter provision has become an essential weapon

in the global fight against COVID-19.

Right now, 1 in every 97 people worldwide has been forced

from their home by conflict or disaster.

They’re living away from home –

away from its comfort, familiarity and protection.

For them, the pandemic is yet another deadly threat

. But our life-saving aid is helping people stay healthy

and can help limit the spread of the virus.

20th June is World Refugee Day

and some of our supporters will be going

#OFFTHEGRID

to raise funds for vulnerable displaced families in places

like Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Ethiopia, Mozambique and Syria.

As the end of the tax year approaches,

we need your support to continue our work.

Induction of Craig and Susan Howlett

RC Freshwater Bay's meeting 9th June,

we inducted three new members, bring our ratio back

 to 50:50 male/female membership.

Wonderful to welcome Mehrane Mehramiz,

an Alzheimer's Researcher who will work on the Youth Committee,

Bev Lowe who is well known to many for the amazing work she and John

have done in the community for many years,

particularly setting up Manna and then Moort Care,

stepping back from this has left space for Rotary

. Bev will be right at home on the Community Committee.

Third is Jill O'Callaghan, a nurse who has worked for years on a project in India

- Institute for Indian Mother and Child with Dr. Sujit Brahmochary.

Jill will serve on the International Committee.

Congratulations Mike Bermann on receiving a Paul Harris Fellow

(with a few sapphires) for your contribution to The Rotary Foundation.

Applications National Youth Science Forum remain open

to attend the January 2022 forum. Applications will close on 2 July 2021.

The NYSF management has advised,

”the Australian government is in the process of rolling

out the COVID-19 vaccine, however COVID-19 safety guidelines,

travel restrictions and quarantine requirements are an ongoing issue.

Given the timeframes associated with the vaccine rollout,

we anticipate existing restrictions and the potential for hotspots

and quick lockdowns for some time yet.

Given this, return to a fully residential program

 is not feasible for 2022.

Based on the successful delivery of the hybrid program

in January 2021,

 and after carefully considering risk,

we have concluded that a similar hybrid model of delivery

 to that deployed in 2021,

is the most appropriate choice for January 2022.

This model has proven success in enabling us to achieve

the goals of the NYSF Year 12 Program while ensuring

the safety of participants, volunteers and staff.”

Accordingly, the program has been modified for 2022 to:

  • A program that runs from 10 January 2022 to 25 January 2022;
  • and
  • Is split equally to 5 days of digital  presentation
  • and 5 days of in-person hub activity in Perth.

The cost of the 2022 NYSF program remains at $1,900.

Would you please commence through your usual channels,

the promotion of applications from year 11 students

to attend the 2022 NYSF program.

Applications are again to be made through the NYSF website, https://www.nysf.edu.au/programs/year-12-program

A direct approach to the Head of Science at your local high school

or college, to identify applicants who would benefit from attending the program,

is also advisable.

Successful applicants at the club level,

will participate in a District selection process, as in prior years.

Attached is a caption and promotional flyer that can

be used for social media posts and other promotional purposes.

Please contact me if you have any query.

Best regards

Simon Cubitt

At the 60th Anniversary & Changeover Celebrations

Today was just another wow kind of day.

President Jill’s last lunch before she gets to pin Rev John with the President badge.

The Hon Richard Court AC giving a great presentation on the Australia

 Japan special relationship

and Caitlin Schmitt our Youth Exchange student recently returned from Japan

giving her talk about her Exchange year.

We packed all that into 90 mins!

We also crammed in a massive club photo and Rebecca Tolstoy AM

, Perth Rotary, North Perth Rotary and the Path of Hope team managed

to donate $112,134 to the Salvation Army for our Path of Hope project. Amazing!

from our happy smiling Rotarians!

Our @karrinyup_rotary volunteers are doing double duty

 today at the markets -

also raising funds for the Salvation Army WA’s #redshieldappeal

Our community service team are collecting beanies, scarves,

 gloves and blankets -

and of course; we are running the market too!

This quartet of Rotarians represents many years of Service above Self to our club and to Rotary.

President-Elect Peter, Past District Governor Phil, long-serving past Secretary and Treasurer Vic

and Past President Peter were happy to be photographed in front of our media wall,

which made its way to our interim venue at Tassels Place Bar & Bistro this week.

Rotary Club of Albany Port raffled a trailer load of donated firewood

to raise funds for our upcoming year's projects.

Rotarians braved the cold weather to sell tickets outside Reeves in Albany.

Our sincere thanks again to the management of Reeves

for their cooperation and permission to use the location.

Come and grab a sausage from us at the Rockingham Rotary Markets

(Kent Street)

PERSIMMONS!

Thank you to the Club members and friends and partners

who helped pick persimmons for tomorrow's Rotary markets.

The weather was perfect as were the persimmons.

Special thanks to Steve and Laurie Collett for allowing us

to harvest this fruit for sale at TOMORROW'S MARKETS

Note in the photo that, while almost everyone had gathered together

for a group photo, a couple of the ladies simply couldn't resist

picking a few more persimmons.

A big thank to all who donated food to Freo Rotary’s Give a Damn Give a Can.

Delivery of all the goods was made St Pat’s on Sunday.

Unpacked and stacked by members and volunteers who were thrilled by

 the response from our community.
