Members of Districts 9455 and 9465
Currently Rotary clubs in WA are currently supported by two Rotary Districts, District 9465
for clubs mostly south of the Swan River and
District 9455 for clubs mostly north of the Swan River.
Rotary International (RI) has issued a directive at their June Board meeting
that the two Districts in Western
Australia will be merged effective 1 July 2023.
We await further information and guidance from RI regarding the process,
and once this is received it will be shared with all members
and an appropriate steering committee with representatives
from both our Districts
will be established.
We understand there may be some questions,
and we ask that you please forward any queries regarding this
to your District Governor/s via
these emails:

Dear Steph and Phil,
At long last after collecting, cleaning, removing badges etc the surplus PPC/PPE
that was collected from the volunteer brigades
in the Capes region has arrived in East Timor.
You may recall that in 2019 I asked around for any surplus PPC/PPE
as I was informed by Margaret River Rotary that they were shipping items
over to support local communities that had a connection to the
Margaret River Senior High Schools leavers excursions to East Timor.
I was informed by members of Margaret River Rotary that the East Timorese
emergency services were critically under resourced and would be grateful
for any equipment we could provide.
Upon receiving permission from the LGA and DFES the collection process
started with Rotarians helping to clean and pack the items into 1000 litre containers.
These containers were then transported to Perth and then onto Melbourne
before being shipped to Dili in Timor.
Due to the Covid lock down the sea container was quarantined
for nearly twelve months before being released and opened by the
Rotary President in Dili Mr Mario DeJesus.
The equipment was distributed to the Fire Brigades within Dili.
The East Timorese have been badly impacted by the Covid pandemic
with 10,000 confirmed cases and 26 deaths from a total population of 1.2 million.
If this wasn't bad enough, they were then impacted by Cyclone Seroja
which resulted in food shortages, 45 deaths and 4500 homes being destroyed.
The East Timorese emergency services were very grateful for the
assistance given to them by our volunteer firefighters.
We can only hope this will assist them in some way, and help them carry
out their duties in a safe and professional manner.
Regards Gordon Temby - Wallcliffe Fire Brigade.

We have some sad news that two members of our Rotary family
have died in the last
few days.
Peter Vecchio has died after his battle with cancer over the last 7 months or so.
He was one of our Charter members, joining the club in 1984
and has consistently supported the club, particularly
in greeting members to each weekly meeting as
assistant Attendance Officer to Frank Mondello for many
years.
Our thoughts are with Maria and the Vecchio family.
The second piece of sad news is that Annie Leach,
wife of Rotarian Rod, also died recently after a long illness
. Our thoughts are with
Rod and Robbie.
We
will advise members of the funeral arrangements when they are known.
Regards,
David
