Dear Warwick,
Thank you so much for yesterdays meeting. I appreciated joining
the discussion with your team.
There is much we can do for ‘people on the ground’
by ‘people on the ground.’
As promised:
Contact in Perth for Ukrainian DPs placements
and support is Roma Popadynec
Roma Popadynec
Roma is very organised, hard working and very capable in her work
of placements and DP support.
She does however find Red Cross difficult to contact which is problematic,
as they are the vehicle through which the DPs
can finally access financial support, medical…
I am the Western Australian Ukrainian historian
whose work was based upon the last Ukrainian genocide
by Stalin during 1932-1933.
It is called the Holodomor (death by starvation).
I am a retired academic but still write and publish but,
I now write and publish children’s soft histories of Ukraine and
her people.
FYI I am about to begin a new research project taking the eye witness
interviews of our DPs and their experience
of the invasion of Ukraine and genocide.
I have attached the proposal for your interest, for which I am seeking funds
. I am distressed I am about to begin another such study.
I did not believe this would be occurring again.
My first Holodomor research and interviews for my
Doctorate was harrowing enough.

I'm proud to say that in this years ShelterBoxAustralia Volunteers Awards
I was announced as the winner of the Fundraiser

I wanted to thank everyone that made this possible by supporting
the various activities, presentations and ShelterBox fundraising events
I have been involved in over the past year.
The amount shown does not include all the donations made in D9465,
just those from events I promoted and supported.
The email from Kieryn will tell you more….
Thanks again for all your support.

Rotary in WA RYPEN a Huge Success
The District 9465 RoCOM team held our
first Rotary in WA RYPEN
camp on the weekend of May 20-22.
The camp was a huge success, as clubs from both districts came together
to sponsor teenagers aged 14-17 to attend
a
full-on weekend of fun and learning.
Our initial group of 36 candidates saw a few changes due to COVID
, but our policy of reserving places on later RYPEN camps
for COVID absentees worked well.
Those unable to attend will come to later RYPENs when it
is safe to do so.
Our facilitators did a great job delivering a safe and exciting program
under head facilitator Cora’s guidance.
Chair Roy and my fellow RoCOM team members Ian and Marilyn
provided excellent support along the way.
Well done everyone who contributed to a successful RYPEN
event.

Angela introduced our guest speaker Hannah Watkins
who attends Year 11 at Aveley Secondary College.
Hannah attended the RYPEN camp last year and thanked the club
for sponsoring her.
The time there and the facilitators definitely helped improve her confidence,
so much so that she would not have been able to speak
in front of this group of people before
attending!
Congratulations to Aleeyah-Ann Smith
- this year's recipient of the Rotary of Crawley Scholarship
. Our long term partners have again been very generous
in their support of our students.
Mrs Vause, Senior School Associate Principal,
presented the award on behalf of Rotary.
Last night our club headed out to dinner at Teen Challenge
for a delicious dinner served by the students.
We heard from Steve Hall the executive director of Teen Challenge
and Gerry Harp the local General Manager talking about their fantastic program.
We also got to meet the lovely Paul who is about to graduate the program on Friday
about how he ended up at Teen Challenge and just how much his life has changed
by being in a place like Teen Challenge has brought hope back into his life.
We really look forward to
working with Teen Challenge in the future.
Thank you to those who assisted at the Wood Raffle and Sausage Sizzle,
on election day,
John Pepall, Peter & Christine Molinari, Kevin Newman, Danny McGrath,
Lesley Trimming, Ray Ford, Chris & Annie Richardson,
Russel Thomson, and Ray & Julie for their hospitality
afterwards.
This morning at 9.30am we will be meeting with a number of very generous volunteers
at the Telstra offices in Geraldton to once again man the phones
in readiness for our Radio Auction Pre-Calls.
To the many individuals and business’ who have generously supported
our Radio Auction year after year,
we thank you very much for your valued contributions enabling
us to raise over $36,000.00 last year.
It is because of your support that we are able to make
a positive impact supporting communities
both local
and beyond over the past 31 years.

Today the Freo Rotary delivered the donated goods from
the Give A Dam give a can (GADGAC)
drive to the Day Centre of St Pats.
Pictured along with members of the club are
CEO Michael Piu, the COO Traci Cascioli
and the Manager of the Day Centre, Tania Payne.
Michael and Traci thanked the club very much and Tania was amazed
at the amount of food we donated.
There were huge smiles all around.
Last year our GADGAC food kept them going until
just before Christmas.
Be our Guest. Rotary club members Bob,Paul, Jinny and Deb cooked
and served approx 75 meals, in support of "Port Care",
who do this each Tue night at the Homeless shelter in Hampton Rd.
The funding was made possible thru a Neighborhood Grant from the City of
Fremantle
Welcome to Visitors 24 May 2022
We always love visitors and, after meeting on zoom for several weeks,
we were delighted this week to welcome John and Hilary Thraves from
seen here with President Peter.
Their club is located on the south coast of England
near the Isle of Wright. John and Hilary are currently
visiting their daughter and family
in Doubleview and have also visited our Stirling Farmers Market.
They told us a little about the activities of their Rotary club,
which include a
Christmas Market and a Summer
Welcome our
guests from Como Rotary
Tim and Heike
Davey
Pam and Colin
Levitt
Very interesting to hear them speak about their experiences
with Rotary and their adventures.
Some of Rotary projects involved Rypen, Camp Opportunity,
Colins lawn mower ride around Australia in 2016,
raising money for Mens Health.
Water to villages project in Bali, packing and sending goods to Timor.
The containers used for this cost $3000 to $4000,
then added costs to send to Timor.
Moora St James Op Shop
assists with supplying clothes for the containers.
Thank you Moora
St James Op Shop.
Thank you to
Moora and surrounds who donate clothing.
Tim, Heike, Pam and Colin enjoy their travelling around,
visiting Rotary Clubs along the way.
This is their networking, meeting fellow Rotarians
and helps with their
volunteer activities.
Como's major fundraiser is the car show held yearly at Wesley College
. This raises around
$16,000.
Thanks to Tim,
Heike, Pam and Colin for a very entertaining Rotary night.
